'Star Wars Reads' Month Coming This October

If you have students who aren't motivated to read, here's an event that might excite them: "Star Wars Reads," a month-long celebration of reading and Star Wars books.

Now in its ninth year, "Star Wars Reads"  begins October 1 with special events and offers throughout the month. The Star Wars website and social media accounts will feature free digital activities, including reading challenges to do at home. There will be giveaways as well.

Of course, they will be offering promotional discounts on Star Wars books and merchandise, so teachers should be wary of focusing on the commercialization involved. In past years, Star Wars Reads has been a great way to jump-start an interest in reading, so that should be the focus.

Local libraries and bookstores may be hosting in-person or virtual Star Wars Reads events, so check for listings in your area. The hashtag #StarWarsReads on social media is a great way to learn about events, activities or ideas.
