The children will enjoy reading a good
cliff-hanger while practicing reading and comprehension skills.
What you'll need: Charlotte's Web or The Trumpet of the Swam by E.B. White, tape recorder
Read one of the above "cliff-hanger" stories into a tape recorder. Then have the child read the book while listening to the tape. This will help the child read and understand the text. After each chapter, stop the tape recorder and invite the child to predict what will happen next. Discuss the prediction together. Then have the children read the next chapter to find out if the prediction is correct. Continue the activity until the book is finished.
